About this plan

In the local Garhwali dialect, "Bugyal" means high-altitude alpine pasture. Dayara Bugyal is celebrated as one of the two most picturesque alpine meadows in India, covering 28 square kilometers of gently rolling slopes at 12,000 feet.

In summer and autumn it is carpeted in lush green grass and wildflowers; in winter it transforms into a pristine snowy wonderland ideal for snow trekking.

Itinerary

  1. Dehradun to Barsu / Raithal village (Drive180 km, 7 hrs)

    Drive along the Bhagirathi river to the scenic base village of Raithal or Barsu. Traditional homestay stay.

  2. Base Village to Barnala Lake (Trek4 km, 4 hrs)

    Ascend through golden oak and rhododendron forests to the serene lake campsite at Barnala.

  3. Barnala to Dayara Bugyal top (Trek5 km, 4 hrs)

    Emerge above the timberline onto the vast undulating meadows. The Bandarpoonch massif rises dramatically ahead.

  4. Dayara Bugyal exploration & Bakaria Top summit (Trek4 km)

    Walk along the highest ridge of Bakaria Top for 360-degree views of the greater Garhwal Himalayas.

  5. Day 5Descend to base village & celebration

    Gentle walk down through the forest to the village. Overnight homestay and local Garhwali dinner.

  6. Day 6Drive from base village to Dehradun

    Drive back along the Tehri dam route, arriving in Dehradun by late afternoon.
